Hi, I’m Peter Adourian.

Peter has dedicated his career to representing individuals entangled in the justice system.

After being called to the bar in Ontario in 2016, Peter began practicing exclusively in criminal law at a small firm. In 2021, he moved to Yellowknife to work as a staff lawyer with the Legal Aid Commission of the NWT. In 2025, Peter opened Adourian Law Office, combining his experience in criminal and constitutional law to serve Northerners.

Peter has acted as counsel before judges and juries, successfully defending clients against charges ranging from minor theft to serious sexual assault. His dedication to high-quality advocacy includes addressing constitutional issues in criminal cases, such as excessive force, unlawful searches, and arbitrary arrests. In the courtroom, Peter’s zealous advocacy is matched only by his compassion for his clients. He works closely with each client to define what success looks like and strives to achieve a just outcome tailored to their unique needs.

Peter earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor alongside an American law degree from Detroit Mercy School of Law. He later completed a research LL.M. at Osgoode Hall Law School, focusing on constitutional damages litigation. He has also served on the Law Society of the Northwest Territories Reconciliation Committee.

Peter is passionate about making legal education accessible to his community. He has been quoted by CBC North, Cabin Radio, and the Yellowknifer on a variety of legal issues affecting Northerners. Having visited nearly all the vibrant and diverse communities across the Northwest Territories, Peter holds a deep appreciation for the distinct and unique cultures that make the North such a wonderful place.

Outside of the courtroom, Peter is a familiar face in downtown Yellowknife. Whether he’s cycling around town, performing music on stage, or enjoying a book at a local coffee shop, he’s always happy to connect with his community. When he isn’t wearing a toque, Peter is one of Yellowknife’s most recognizable residents—feel free to stop and say hello!

Adourian Law Office is located in Chief Drygeese Territory, which from time immemorial has been the traditional land of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation.
